Mallory Park 10k: Textbook Example of How Not To Pace A Run

The goal of this event was to run a tempo run but as conditions were supposed to be fairly awful I decided I would be happy to drop 10 seconds a mile if necessary …

It all went to hell.

Weather in Rugby = gorgeous blue skies sunshine.
Weather in Mallory Park = tornado season. And bonus torrential rain.

I watched my pace getting slower and slower while my effort stayed about the same. About lap 6 (of 8 laps!!) I got a stitch which hasn’t happened since about school. What am I? 11 and in PE?

Was tempted to walk / drop out. REALLY tempted. Quite a few people were taking walking breaks but the conditions were challenging. The wind was just relentless. I told myself to stop being a fanny and just keep going.

I’ve been a bit under the weather the last few days which probably didn’t help but this was definitely a mental challenge.

However a bonus of the challenging conditions was despite my shocking pace (against what I’d intended to run at) and utterly shite pacing I was first female and got to break the tape.

Massive emotional moment after battling demons and wind (weather not stomach!!).

Never dreamed I’d ever break a tape! Life goal achieved!!

Cracking event from ATW. Easy parking, no loo queues and quick briefing and GO!
